today i was the second day i was supposed to head up to traverse city and could not, due to weather. we didn't get any more snow, but it's still in the teens so everything we got is nice and frozen solid.
we did get to make a trip over to grandma terriens place to drop off some groceries. this is the first time i've gotten to see her new apartment. it's actually rather nice and open. she has a great view, especially when the pines are all covered in a thick snow.
i remember what going to visit grandma meant back in the day...being chased through the cherry trees by big mean cousin joel, racing jeniece to the big oak tree, working up the courage to go into the old barn and look for cats even though we knew we weren't supposed to go into the barn b/c it would collapse on us...being terrified of the stairs that went down the the kitchen-so steep and narrow...the fresh apples, the smell of the warehouse when there were thousands upon thousands of freshly picked apples all crated up inside of it...mmmm, climbing on the tractor and pretending we could drive it...walking the dirt roads outside of the orchard with jeniece. i seemed to spend a lot of time with jeniece and hiding from joel, i wonder what johnny did during these times...hmmm. i feel kind of guilty that it's taken me all these years to wonder about him...sorry bud...
the view from grandma's house is much different now, but her name will always hold very precious memories for me for the rest of my life :)
