Day 58 Dec.14 2010

FINALLY got myself and bug up to traverse city.  the drive wasn't too awful, nothing that this seasoned michigander couldn't handle.

in driving north i retraced my old route to my old stomping grounds.  it stirred up a lot of memories.  i did a lot of growing up in good ole' mount pleasant.  when i look back now, i don't remember making the decision to attend cmu-at all, not one bit.  the only thing i remember about college decisions was that msu was WAY too close to home, and cmu was what my parents did, i wanted to do something else.  hmm.  that worked out well.  but in the end it actually did work out very well.  i wouldn't have changed a thing about the 4 years i spent there, the tumbles and falls, the major and minor decisions-i don't regret one thing.  after i graduated and moved down to lansing, i got married, and moved back to mt. p, but continued to work in lansing (the things i did for the man i love ;-)).  so i had about a 65-70 mile commute one way to get to work and back everyday.

while i was driving the same 65 mile route again, i started noticing the little things that i really looked forward to on my trips home that were my signs that i was getting close.  i passed the field where there was always a large herd of the sheep with black faces (they are my favorite kind of sheep), so many times i would text chad (i know, texting and driving...shame on me-i lived and learned by now, promise) and tell him how much i wanted a black faced sheep.  and then when i would pass the "polk rd" sign...

that didn't mean anything to me until the last month or two that we lived in mt. pleasant and we had gotten the orders to ft. polk, la.  i was SOOOOO excited to know where we were going finally.  it didn't matter that there was this big open nothingness surrounding the location...it was the first thing we were going to do as "us".  our first big move together as husband and wife, an official couple.  we were going to start our life there, and sure enough we did.  not only did we start building our own lifestyle together, but we added to our family as well.

mt. pleasant will always have a special spot in my heart.  no matter where chad and i end up, or where we have been, i will always be able to drive the 65 miles north to mt. p and see the polk sign, and the sheep farm, and the mt. pleasant water tower and know how happy those things used to make me when our life was so simple and "pleasant"...here's to us babe!  i love you :)
