Day 160 Mar.26 2011

i noticed today that i'm craving dried fruit to snack on instead of zebra cakes.  well, zebra cake was the first thing that popped into my mind this afternoon and i immediately wanted one-it's a good thing i didn't have any.  instead b/c i had a bag of dried fruit sitting in front of my face, i tried that.  it was just as sweet, if not sweeter than i remembered a zebra cake.  i always feel like zebra cakes don't quite every really meet my sweet requirement, which is odd.  zebra cake = pure sugar.  you'd think that would satisfy.  i have a mix of cherries, raisins, and strawberries....<insert a choir of angels singing hallelujah music>

i also made dinner for the girls tonight (monica and erin, not cate and abi).  it was also perfection, or at least i thought so.  butternut squash (weird story about that-i'll come back to that), fresh green beans sauteed in garlic, and pork slices roasted with pears, oh and a side of pasta as requested by the pregnant one :).  i was very happy with the meal.  a little nervous, not big into cooking pork (hubby isn't a fan, so it doesn't happen often), it all turned out just like i wanted, which is always nice.

back to the squash story...does anyone know if squash (specifically butternut) secretes a "sap"?  i know it secretes something when you cut it in half and let one half sit for the length of time it takes to chop the second half...but for some reason i noticed today that this "sap" made my hands sticky, so i washed them and it felt better.  for about 10 sec until my hands dried.  and then they didn't feel sticky, they felt as if my entire palm was covered in super glue.  and i couldn't get it off no matter what i tried.  now, 3 hours after dinner it's starting to very finely crust off...very weird, i've cut up a lot of butternut squash in my life (well, the last 6 months of life) and this has never happened.  makes me wonder if it was safe to eat?!  crap, why do things like this cross my mind AFTER i've eaten it...

either way, it was delicious!!!!! :)

  1. As far as I know, it's the sugar in the squash... so yes, it's basically sap :-)
