Day 72 Dec.28 2010

we packed up today and flew the coup like a flock of migratory birds.

i was proud and ashamed with myself at the same time as i gathered all of our belongings and tried to cram everything into the same 4 bags that i arrived with...

proud b/c i didn't add extra bags, and ashamed b/c there were clothes that i repacked that i hadn't even worn whilst we were in MI...i ended up leaving a large pile of stuff with my mom at the request she mail it back to me when she had the time.

our first stop on this great voyage south (i was riding along with my cousin who lives in beaumont, tx) was in dayton.  here my other cousin (the driver's brother) gave us the grand tour of the "chateau."  bug was very impressed :)

our next stop was cincinnati, by way of carvan, to see yet again another cousin (the previous two's brother).  this brother is the chef at a cutting edge (hahaha, get it cutting...chef...sorry) sushi place in downtown cinnci, called Soho Sushi.

i've never been into fish of any kind at any point in my life.  i'd like to be, i know the amazing things it can do for your health, but i can't get by the fact it tastes like fish.  go figure.  i was very excited to see this new place i had heard so much about, but was skeptical about actually enjoying the food.  i don't see sushi or fish as "filling" in anyway, it could never be a comfort food for me, like mac'n'cheese, or sweet potatoes, or anything smothered in cheese...mmmmm.

so, i posed the challenge to my cousin.  make me something i'll enjoy!  i mentioned the few things i don't like, and the things i do really like (cream cheese was an option! good start).  he made me one that i don't think had any fish in it...mine was just chicken, cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, and eel sauce on a soy wrap.  but i LOVED it!  i did try two other kinds, a steak one and tempura shrimp and they weren't bad.  i don't think sushi could ever really fill me up though.  is it supposed to?  either way, it was fantastic and i'd have sushi as my mid afternoon snack anytime! :)
